The Annenberg School of Nursing (ASN) is an intimate center of learning. We prepare vocational nursing (VN) students for the state licensing exam, the NCLEX-PN®, and nurse assistant (NA) students to earn certification through the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
The Vocational Nursing Instructor plans, teaches, directs, and supervises all student learning experiences in the classroom, skills lab, and clinical areas, following the curriculum of the school as approved by the California State Board of Nursing.
The Vocational Nursing Instructor’s responsibilities are but not limited to:
Responsibilities:
*Teaches and implements the total curriculum, as assigned by, and under the direction and supervision of the Director.
*Plans and assigns student activities in the classroom and/or clinical settings.
*Is instrumental in identifying individual and collective learning needs of assigned students, being cognizant of the physical, mental and emotional status of the learners.
*Maintains records of student progress and performance, attendance and grades.
*Prepares, administers, and grades, written and practical examinations during course of study.
*Devises written lesson plans and implements them through lecture, demonstration, discussion, etc.
*Provides a copy of all lesson plans to the Director.
*Discusses with students their concerns and/or problems directly or indirectly related to learning experience.
*Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with Program Director or her designee.
*Is responsible to assist the student to develop an understanding of values, attitudes, and ideals appropriate to the health care profession.
*Participates in the selection and preparation of instructional materials.
*Provides a professional role model for students.
*Able to cover the theory class when needed.
Experience and Skills:
*Must have a current California active license as a Registered Nurse or a Vocational Nurse.
*Must have a baccalaureate degree from an approved school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of one year full-time teaching experience in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or met community college or state university teaching requirements in California.
*Must have a minimum of two years’ experience as a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse within the last five years.
*Variety of Experience preferred.

*Ability to work effectively with others.

*Demonstrates integrity and progressive self-improvement.
